DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

The City manager exercises leadership in maintaining effective communication between the City Council, City employees, and the citizens of Port Lavaca.  As the City's Chief Executive Officer, the City Manager performs financial monitoring, presents the annual budget, prepares City Council agenda, provides citizen assistance, and works on economic and community development opportunities.  This office also maintains the City's website, prepares agenda and minutes for the Port Commission, and provides general administrative assistance to other programs.

City Manager

Bob Turner of Tyler, Texas came to Port Lavaca as City Manager April 19, 2010. He had worked for the City of Tyler for 28 years in several different areas of management. 2002-2003 he served as Deputy City Manager and from 2003-2008 he was City Manager serving as Chief Executive  and Administrative Officer for the City. He provided leadership to Department Directors/Managers for 25 Service Departments within the City. Developing $ 100+ million dollar annual operating budget.  Providing guidance and direction as needed to staff and Council on matters related to the best interests of the City, such as Annexation, Infrastructure development, housing initiatives, policy changes, etc.

He attended Harvard University Cambridge, MA 1986-1987 and received a Master of Public Administration.  1979 - 1982 he received a Master of Science - Technology from the University of Texas, Tyler, Texas. 1977-1979 he received a Bachelor of Science - Technology from the University of Texas, Tyler, Texas.

After being retired for about 8 months, he could hear the waves of the ocean calling him to the coast. He and his beautiful wife have settled in Port Lavaca now and when time permits he will be out in the water fishing for the "big one"
