The City of Port Lavaca will be starting a fully automated trash service beginning December 5, 2016. The new trash carts are being delivered to each household the week of November 28th thru December 2nd. The new trash service places more of a focus on minimizing environmental impacts, improving neighborhood appearance and continuing quality pickup service.
Unlike the previous trash service, fully automated collection provides each household with one trash cart per residence. If necessary additional carts may be requested but for an additional cost (Maximum 3 Carts total). Allied Waste uses trucks designed to automatically lift the new cans without the driver leaving the vehicle. This means all items, including yard waste, must fit inside the new containers.
Residents can expect minimal interruption to service as the new service begins, using their new carts once they are delivered. Instructions and pickup schedule information are being provided with each new cart.
Multi-family units utilizing wooden/metal enclosures in front of their properties must remove them prior to December 5, 2016 so that there is room for the new carts to be collected curbside. Owners of multi-family units whose residents do not have a separate water account with the City will be responsible for the trash carts assigned to their units.
